Degree Show 2019
I have recently finished my time studying sculpture and environmental art at the Glasgow School of Art. It has probably been the hardest 4 years of my life so far. I have never felt so lost, confused and unmotivated as a artist.
But the end was worth all of the negativity I felt. I was so overwhelmed from the amount of positivity surrounding my work. It was such a wonderful feeling to have so many people enjoy and like my work.
I think the true reflection of my work has came from the awards, commissions and comments I have gotten from degree show. I think overall maybe the course was not right for me. But I am glad I have done the course as I wouldn't be where I am if I hadn't. I would not do it again and there is a lot of things I would have done differently If I knew the information that I do now. One of the most enjoyable part of university have been the people I have met along the way and the collaborations which have came with that.
Degree Show 2019
The Pieces show below are some of my favourite processes. Glass fusing, screen printing and Black Smithing. Both the glass fusing and blacksmithing I did outside of university as they did not have the facilities for me to do what I wanted.
I am very fortunate enough to have a mum who is a glass artist, which has given me so many opportunities to work with glass and ceramics which I would not have had through GSA. As my mum is a glass artist she is well connected in the art world and is friends with Black Smith Steven Lunn and Ashlee Donladson. These blacksmiths helped me create this piece as well as giving me the materials and facilities to make it. I can not thank my family and friends enough for helping me create these pieces. I absolutely love them and I can not wait to see where it takes me.
